SUMMARY:Universal home visits empower households to protect maternal and child health
DESCRIPTION:Description: Women and children in Nigeria continue to face high risks of illness and death. A five-year project in Bauchi State\, Northern Nigeria\, implemented universal home visits to pregnant women and their spouses and measured the impact on maternal and child health outcomes. The visits were different in several key ways: they were universal\, covering all households in participating wards; they shared evidence about risk factors that households could act on themselves; and they involved men. \nOn March 25th\, from 2:30 pm to 4 pm GMT\, this webinar will present findings and implications of the project. The visits led to improved maternal and child health outcomes\, and improved attitudes and actions among men. The households also reduced risk factors like heavy work in pregnancy and domestic violence. All this happened without increased use of health facilities. This has important implications for other areas with high maternal and child mortality and limited access to quality services from health facilities. The Bauchi State government has committed to rollout the home visits across the State\, as funding allows. \nLearn more from the IMCHA research team « Video Edutainment: Impact on Maternal and Infant Outcomes in Toro\, Nigeria ». This webinar is co-organised with IMCHA’s West Africa Health Policy and Research Organisation. The event will also be available in French. \nRegister here
