SUMMARY:Funding Community-Led Development for the SDGs
DESCRIPTION:Keynote\, Panel Discussion\, and Q&A 1:30pm-3:00pm \nRefreshments and Networking starting at 1:00pm \nLocation: \n515 Madison Ave\, NYC \n10th Floor\, The Taylor Room \nGlobal North funders and international NGO actors are increasingly recognizing what community-led organizations have long known: the way that international development is done needs to change to put affected communities in the drivers’ seat. \nThis Side Event during UNGA 78 and the SDG Summit will explore how shifting power and resources into the hands of local communities isn’t just about what is morally right and it isn’t just about equality in partnerships (although it is both of those things). Resourcing civil society organizations that are led by and for affected communities is essential to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals. \nHow are funders moving in this direction? What does getting long-term\, flexible support into the hands of community-led organizations and local actors look like in practice? What impact is this having and what are the ongoing challenges funders grapple with? \n\n\n\n\nHost Meg French\, Executive Director\, Stephen Lewis Foundation \nKeynote Address Twesigye Jackson Kaguri\, Founder and CEO\, Nyaka \nPanel \n\nChristine Sow\, President and CEO\, Humentum (moderator)\nMeg French\, Executive Director\, Stephen Lewis Foundation\nVahe Mirikian\, Director for US Policy\, Peace Direct\nWanja Ngure\, Program Manager Grantmaking\, UHAI-EASHRI\nother panelists to be announced\n\nRSVP requested for planning and food purposes \nAccessibility: The building and event room are wheelchair accessible with an elevator to the 10th floor. There are multi-stall gendered washrooms on the 10th floor as well as single stall\, accessible\, gender neutral washrooms on the 9th floor.
