It celebrates longstanding partnerships in global child health between our institutions and partners in Sub-Saharan Africa.  It honors the legacy of Drs. Don and Elizabeth Hillman\, whose leadership\, mentorship\, and international collaborations advanced child health and medical education in Canada and across Sub-Saharan Africa. They played a key role in developing medical schools and pediatric training programs across Africa (including Kenya\, Uganda\, Tanzania\, Zambia) and in Canada. Both held distinguished academic positions at several Canadian universities and were recognized nationally and internationally for their contributions\, including being awarded the Order of Canada. Beyond their formal work\, their most lasting impact was mentoring generations of physicians and health professionals committed to improving child health worldwide. Established by Drs. Robert Armstrong\, Stuart MacLeod\, Tex Kissoon and Charles Larson\, with deep commitments to Global Child Health and all our institutions\, the lectureship recognizes the Hillmans’ enduring contributions and commitment to improving child health worldwide. \nAttend here!

DESCRIPTION:Le mercredi 10 juin\, alors que la série de webinaires de l’AVA présente  « Aider les aidants : reconnaître et répondre aux lésions cérébrales dues à la violence conjugale » \, avec la participation de  la Dre Halina (Lin) Haag \, boursière des IRSC et membre du corps professoral contractuel de la Faculté de travail social de l’ Université Wilfrid Laurier et membre du Centre canadien pour les lésions cérébrales dues à la violence conjugale. \nMercredi 10 juin 2026 \n14 h – 15 h 30 HAE \nDe nombreuses personnes survivantes de violence conjugale peuvent également souffrir de séquelles persistantes dues à des lésions cérébrales causées par des coups à la tête\, au visage ou au cou et/ou par strangulation. Il est essentiel de veiller à ce que les intervenants qui rencontrent ces personnes soient formés et outillés. Ce webinaire vise à harmoniser les connaissances et à sensibiliser la population à cette crise de santé publique souvent méconnue que représentent les lésions cérébrales liées à la violence conjugale au Canada. Les sujets abordés comprennent une introduction à ces lésions\, notamment la strangulation\, les signes et symptômes typiques\, les outils et protocoles de reconnaissance\, les stratégies d’adaptation et de soutien\, ainsi que les ressources disponibles pour aider les intervenants dans divers contextes. Cette formation est rendue possible grâce au soutien financier de l’Agence de la santé publique du Canada. \nÀ propos de l’intervenant \nDre Halina (Lin) Haag (elle) est boursière des IRSC et chargée de cours à la Faculté de travail social de l’Université Wilfrid Laurier. Ses recherches portent sur les femmes survivantes de lésions cérébrales liées à la violence conjugale. Lin s’engage à améliorer les résultats par la pratique directe\, la recherche novatrice et la formation professionnelle\, convaincue que l’accroissement des connaissances et de la compréhension au sein de la communauté est essentiel. Ayant elle-même vécu une lésion cérébrale\, elle a été conférencière invitée auprès de diverses organisations universitaires\, professionnelles et communautaires internationales pour aborder les enjeux du handicap\, des lésions cérébrales et de la marginalisation.
