SUMMARY:13th Gathering of the ParlAmericas Parliamentary Network for Gender Equality Bolstering Social Protection beyond COVID-19: What the Data Tells Us
DESCRIPTION:The 13th Gathering of the PNGE will explore the ways in which strengthening social supports and services can contribute to addressing the root causes of gender inequality and other forms of social vulnerability\, building on conversations spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic on enhancing social protection systems. The question of data will be a crosscutting focus of the Gathering\, with particular attention to the availability and use of disaggregated data to address the differentiated needs of women and vulnerable groups during the pandemic. \nThe Gathering will provide spaces for knowledge-sharing on good practices for more systematic collection of disaggregated data with a view to preventing the gaps in social protection during future crises and to ensure an overall strengthening of the social safety net. \nThe 13th Gathering of the ParlAmericas PNGE will be organized in three online events\, which will be conducted in ParlAmericas’ official languages: Spanish\, English\, Portuguese\, and French.

SUMMARY:Reshaping the World of Work for Women
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 has strained global health systems beyond capacity\, and the economic fallout has been far-reaching: job losses\, wage cuts\, small businesses closing their doors\, and the added burden to social safety networks and government programs. \nIn crises like the coronavirus\, women are often the first to drop out of paid work and the last to join back. Their experiences are compounded by fewer employment opportunities\, disruptions in childcare\, an increased burden of unpaid care for the ill and elderly\, an uptick in gender-based violence\, and increased competition for resources. \nThe systemic inequities highlighted by the pandemic shed light on the many barriers women face in the world of work. New and innovative recovery efforts are required to address these inequities and set women up for success. \nDuring this second event in ICRW’s 45th anniversary series\, we will be joined by speakers from across regions who bring unique perspectives on work in South Asia and East Africa and aim to build a new foundation of support for women in both paid and unpaid work. \nThese conversations will help us look more closely at the barriers that women perpetually face—leaving them on the periphery—and how we can together tackle these challenges to build toward more inclusive and resilient economies. \nClick here to register.
