DESCRIPTION:Intro to KS for Knowledge Users_course_v5 \nThis course will teach students about knowledge synthesis in general\, as well as how to conduct knowledge synthesis projects. Students will begin to conduct knowledge synthesis in the topic of their choice\, with guidance from the course directors. Please note that the students will not be completing a full knowledge synthesis project during the duration of the course\, due to course timelines. \nAt the end of this course\, students will be able to: \n– Differentiate between different types of knowledge synthesis\, such as systematic reviews and qualitative evidence reviews\n– Distinguish between different types of evidence that can be summarized in knowledge synthesis\n– Develop a knowledge synthesis question\n– Establish the eligibility criteria for knowledge synthesis\n– Create a knowledge synthesis protocol \nWho should take this course? Graduate students\, post-doctoral fellows\, early career researchers\, new evidence synthesis practitioners\, other knowledge users. \nAll participants must bring a current or proposed knowledge synthesis project to work on in the course. DESCRIPTION:The University of Guelph is hosting a virtual conversation with Bob Rae\, Canada’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations (UN) in New York for International Development week. \n\n\n\nHear from one of Canada’s foremost leaders in diplomacy and international development as he reflects on Canada’s leadership role in promoting sustainable\, inclusive and evidence-based approaches to development and international cooperation. Rae has served as Canada’s ambassador to the UN since 2020 and was elected to the UN Presidency of the Economic and Social Council for 2024-25. He also served as the premier of Ontario from 1990 to 1995. \n\n\n\nThe conversation will take place virtually on Monday\, Feb. 3\, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. via Zoom. DESCRIPTION:To mark International Development Week in February\, the art exhibition « Through my eyes: art for development » will be hosted by the University of Ottawa’s WUSC Local Committee\, a dynamic campus-based group who support our organization’s awareness-raising efforts. This art exhibition brings together the work of 24 artists from Ghana\, Malawi\, and Canada. The diversity of their family backgrounds\, professional experiences\, the contexts in which they lived\, as well as the challenges they faced daily\, has brought extra depth to their work.\n\nÀ travers mes yeux : l’art pour le développement rassemble les œuvres de 24 artistes du Ghana\, du Malawi et du Canada. La diversité de leurs origines familiales\, de leurs expériences professionnelles\, de leurs contextes de vie\, ainsi que des défis quotidiens qui leur ont été posés\, a apporté une profondeur supplémentaire à leur travail. \nLa force de cette exposition d’art réside dans le fait que cette puissante diversité est unie par des valeurs communes à tou-te-s ces artistes et une vision partagée du développement durable. \nDans le cadre de ses efforts de développement mondial\, l’EUMC a créé cette exposition d’œuvres d’art axée sur le Programme 2030 et ses ODD. L’exposition ne se contente pas de transmettre un message\, elle vise à sensibiliser de manière positive\, en mettant en lumière les défis mondiaux auxquels les gens sont confrontés et le rôle essentiel que les actions individuelles peuvent jouer. \n\nThe art exhibition is free to enter and open to interested visitors from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on February 3 and 4 at Jock Turcot University Centre at the University of Ottawa. DESCRIPTION:Dans le cadre de la Semaine du développement international 2025\, Coopération Canada et le Centre de recherches pour le développement international (CRDI) sont fiers de présenter une réception et une projection de The Legend of the Vagabond Queen of Lagos​\, un film puissant et stimulant qui offre une critique captivante du développement urbain et des expulsions forcées dans la plus grande ville d’Afrique\, Lagos. \nRéalisé par le collectif Agbajowo\, ce premier film saisissant combine des éléments de thriller\, de documentaire et de réalisme magique pour raconter l’histoire de Jawu\, un esprit guerrier piégé dans les dures réalités des bidonvilles flottants de Lagos. Incarnée par la talentueuse Temi Ami-Williams (connue pour Eyimofe)\, Jawu s’embarque dans un voyage périlleux après avoir découvert les sombres secrets de politiciens corrompus et s’être confrontée à la réalité brutale des expulsions qui menacent sa maison et sa communauté. Voyant là une chance de changer sa vie\, elle prend l’argent. Yet far too little international development funding makes it to them to support their priorities\, growth\, and sustainability. \nInternational cooperation organizations and staff at Global Affairs Canada are collaborating to identify and change policies\, restrictions\, and processes that impede the department’s ability to meaningfully support locally led development. But even with important changes underway\, significant institutional challenges persist. \nWe must continue to advocate around GAC’s funding practices and policies\, and at the same time\, there is more we can do as the international cooperation sector to improve the ways we work. This conversation is an opportunity to share information\, learn from one another and strategize on how we and GAC can best support local organizations and movements. \nAttend here!

Elles sont considérées au niveau international comme étant une violation des droits humains des femmes et des filles\, notamment de leurs droits à la santé\, à la sécurité et à l’intégrité physique\, ainsi que de leur droit à la vie lorsque ces pratiques ont des conséquences mortelles. \nLes filles qui subissent des mutilations génitales féminines font face à des complications à court terme\, telles que des douleurs intenses\, des saignements excessifs\, des infections et des difficultés à uriner\, ainsi qu’à des conséquences à plus long terme pour leur santé sexuelle et reproductive et leur santé mentale. \nBien que principalement concentrée dans 30 pays d’Afrique et du Moyen-Orient\, la pratique des mutilations génitales féminines (MGF) est un problème universel. Elle persiste également dans certains pays d’Asie et d’Amérique latine\, ainsi que parmi les populations immigrées vivant en Europe occidentale\, en Amérique du Nord\, en Australie et en Nouvelle-Zélande. \nPour promouvoir l’élimination des MGF\, des efforts coordonnés et systématiques\, impliquant l’ensemble d’une communauté\, sont nécessaires. Ils doivent être axés sur les droits humains\, l’égalité entre les sexes\, l’éducation sexuelle et porter une attention particulière aux besoins des femmes et des filles ayant subi de telles pratiques.

She leads a global research program focused on factors and environments that increase vulnerability or protect sexual and reproductive health in the context of HIV. Dr. Kaida works closely with community leaders and decision makers to integrate research evidence into health policy and programming attending to social and gender equity. In 2022\, she was elected as a Member of the Royal Society College of New Scholars\, Artists and Scientists. \nDr. Gina Ogilvie\, is the Co-Executive Medical Director of the Institute for Global Health BCCWH. She is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Global Control of HPV related diseases and prevention\, and Professor at the University of British Columbia in the School of Population and Public Health. DESCRIPTION:La justice sociale est une condition fondamentale de la coexistence pacifique et prospère des hommes au sein des nations et entre les nations elles-mêmes.  Nous servons la justice sociale lorsque nous défendons l’égalité des sexes ou les droits des peuples autochtones et des migrants.  Nous faisons progresser la justice sociale lorsque nous abattons les obstacles liés au sexe\, à l’âge\, à la race\, à l’appartenance ethnique\, à la religion\, à la culture ou au handicap. La quête de la justice sociale pour tous est au cœur de la mission mondiale des Nations Unies en faveur du développement et de la dignité humaine. \nLa question de la réduction des inégalités est au cœur de cette Journée 2020. En effet\, 1 travailleur sur 5 vit toujours dans une pauvreté modérée ou extrême. Un grand nombre d’entre eux voient leur salaire stagner et ne bénéficient pas de manière égale de la croissance économique. Les inégalités géographiques au sein des pays ou même entre pays demeurent\, de même que les inégalités entre les sexes. \nToutes ces inégalités empêchent les gens de réaliser leur plein potentiel et pèsent sur les économies. Il est temps d’agir pour réduire les inégalités à l’échelle mondiale.

This initiative\, championed alongside local partner Support Street Mothers and Children\, provides training in various trades\, offers business and financial instruction\, and supports gender equality\, helping single parents and families in extreme poverty rise above their challenges. \nTearfund Canada will share how the Empowering Women in Kenya project\, in partnership with national partner Fadhili Trust\, is creating lasting change by promoting gender equality.
