SUMMARY:Webinar: New tool launched- Supporting wet nursing safely in emergencies
DESCRIPTION:Join Save the Children for a one-hour webinar on December 3 at 9 a.m. EST.  \nIn emergencies\, every drop of breast milk counts. Wet nursing is a proven\, life-saving practice that helps infants continue receiving the protection of human milk when their own mother needs time or support to establish or re-establish direct breastfeeding\, or when infants are orphaned\, unaccompanied – or temporarily without maternal care. \nWet nursing is deeply rooted in cultural practice and has also been shaped by historical and sometimes harmful power dynamics. The new guidance and the Wet Nursing Screening Tool emphasise safe\, voluntary and culturally grounded support. When approached in this way\, wet nursing can bridge temporary feeding challenges\, support maternal recovery\, and maintain access to breast milk while avoiding the risks associated with breast milk substitutes\, like infant formula\, in emergencies. \nThis session is relevant for frontline staff\, decision makers\, and policy influencers engaged in designing\, delivering\, or guiding maternal\, infant and young child nutrition programmes.  \nAttend here!

SUMMARY:“When we turn our backs on the most marginalized people\, we all suffer”
DESCRIPTION:Join The group of 78 on December 5 for a webinar on Canada’s proposed budget cuts to health programs in developing countries. \n“My government will not cut foreign aid.” \nWhen Mark Carney made this pledge on the campaign trail\, many of us believed him. But his recent federal budget\, just passed in the House of Commons\, reduces Canada’s development assistance spending by nearly $3B over four years. Not only that\, but it makes a special point of cutting funds for global health—with no clear rationale for doing so. \nThis targeting of health services for women and children in developing countries—initiatives that are supported by Canada and demonstrate leadership and innovation—comes at exactly the wrong time: in the wake of the dismantling of USAID\, previously the world’s biggest health-sector funder\, and the slashing of European aid programs. Why has the government made this choice\, what implications does it have for vulnerable communities on the ground\, and is there a way to reverse this decision? \nOn Friday\, December 5\, at 10 am Eastern\, they’ll speak with civil society leaders to learn more about this set of critical issues and how NGOs and academics are responding—and what we can do to support them. \nRegister here!

Adaptation is behaviour change yet the potential for application of behavioural science models in the context of Burkina Faso\, Tanzania\, and Malawi remains largely unexplored. \nCentred on five research questions\, BASIN is examining the determinants influencing sustained engagement of community climate and water champions\, uptake and use of climate information\, and adoption of adaptation behaviours at local and national levels through 11 case studies.

DESCRIPTION:La Journée internationale des migrants est l’occasion de dissiper les préjugés et de sensibiliser l’opinion à leurs contributions dans les domaines économique\, culturel et social\, au profit tant de leur pays d’origine que de leur pays de destination. \nLes migrations sont une réalité incontournable. De nombreuses raisons amènent les gens à se déplacer – que ce soit pour étudier à l’étranger\, rejoindre des membres de la famille\, chercher un emploi ou des moyens de subsistance\, ou assurer un meilleur avenir à leurs enfants. D’autres quittent leur pays pour fuir la criminalité\, la violence\, les conflits\, la persécution\, l’insécurité\, la discrimination\, les catastrophes naturelles et la dégradation de l’environnement\, ou encore la pauvreté. \nEn ces temps de mondialisation et d’interdépendance\, la migration internationale pourrait bien devenir un phénomène encore plus répandu. L’intégration croissante des marchés du travail\, la baisse du prix des transports et l’existence de réseaux d’information et de communication et de réseaux sociaux bien établis sont autant de facteurs qui favorisent la mobilité. \nSi la plupart des migrations internationales sont motivées par des raisons économiques\, les conflits\, les violences\, les persécutions\, la répression politique et les autres violations graves des droits de l’homme figurent parmi les principales causes des mouvements de personnes. \nAujourd’hui\, la migration mobilise de plus en plus l’attention de la communauté internationale. Mêlés à des éléments d’imprévisibilité\, d’urgence et de complexité\, les défis et les difficultés des migrations internationales exigent une coopération renforcée et une action collective entre les pays et les régions.
