SUMMARY:Resilient Health Systems for Africa: Re-envisioning the Future Now
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC) 2023 will bring together Africa’s top thought leaders\, political figures\, innovators\, researchers\, policy makers\, health workers and community mobilisers for dialogue and action aimed at mainstreaming climate discourse into health policy conversations\, and vice versa. \nThe conference will kick off with the AHAIC 2023 Wogging event on 5th March to coincide with the Kigali Car Free Day\, which takes place every first and third Sunday of the month as part of efforts to make Kigali a green city and strengthen efforts to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs). DESCRIPTION:The sixty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place from 6 to 17 March 2023. \nRepresentatives of Member States\, UN entities\, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are invited to contribute to the session. \nThemes\n\nPriority theme: Innovation and technological change\, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls\nReview theme: Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls (agreed conclusions of the sixty-second session)\n\nBureau\nThe Bureau of the Commission plays a crucial role in facilitating the preparation for\, and in ensuring the successful outcome of the annual sessions of the Commission. Bureau members serve for two years. In line with ECOSOC decision 2002/234\, the Commission holds the first meeting of its subsequent session\, immediately following the closure of the regular session\, to elect new members of the Bureau as needed. \nThe Bureau for the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (2023) comprises the following members: \n\nH.E. SUMMARY:Neglected Tropical Diseases and WASH\, Spotlight on Trachoma
DESCRIPTION:In honor of World Water Day on March 22 and the UN Conference on Water\, the Canadian Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (CNNTD)\, in partnership with Operation Eyesight Universal and the University of Calgary\, Alberta Council for Global Cooperation\, highlight Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) as diseases needing equitable access to Water\, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) for their prevention and management. NTDs affect over 1.7 billion people (globally\, 1 in 5)\, most of whom live in under-resourced and underserved communities that lack access to water and sanitation and primary health care. Although the scale of NTDs as a public health problem makes the solutions seem daunting\, this session shares successes in NTD prevention and treatment globally that have been supported by Canadians within the global health community. One organization doing NTD elimination through global partnership is Operation Eyesight. The provision of clean water\, along with other critical efforts\, is preventing and supporting the treatment of Trachoma in Kenya\, Zambia and Ethiopia. De la menace de l’épidémie de COVID-19 à l’échec de l’inclusion\, en passant par les obstacles juridiques et financiers et les normes de genre restrictives\, les services essentiels de SDSR sont les premiers à tomber et à voir leurs liens avec les objectifs de développement durable pour 2030 (ODD2030) mis à mal. Il est important d’ajouter les adolescents\, les jeunes\, les réfugiés et les femmes en transition ménopausique dans les services de santé sexuelle et reproductive\, et l’ajout de ces services dans l’ensemble de services de santé essentiels demeure une tâche primordiale. Il est nécessaire d’avoir une véritable représentation de la diversité des voix et de la variété des partenaires pertinents pour retrouver la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs et renforcer leur positionnement au niveau mondial afin de contribuer à la réalisation des objectifs de développement durable. Des exemples précis d’un projet financé par le Centre de recherches pour le développement international qui examine les droits sexuels et reproductifs et le lien entre ces droits et la violence sexuelle et sexospécifique chez les femmes syriennes réfugiées au Liban seront mis en évidence. \nLe Dr Faysal El-Kak est vice-président de la FIGO (Fédération internationale de gynécologie et d’obstétrique)\, directeur du programme de santé sexuelle intégrée des femmes (WISH) et associé clinique d’obstétrique-gynécologie et de dysfonctionnement sexuel féminin au département d’obstétrique et de gynécologie du centre médical de l’Université américaine de Beyrouth (AUBMC). Il est également maître de conférences en comportement de santé\, sexualité et santé publique à la faculté des sciences de la santé de l’Université américaine de Beyrouth (AUB). Il prend part aux services cliniques\, universitaires et de recherche\, tant au niveau universitaire que communautaire. Il dirige notamment une clinique communautaire où il travaille sur les services\, la recherche et la défense de la santé des réfugiés syriens et des Libanais marginalisés dans la communauté d’accueil\, en particulier la santé des femmes.
