The Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH) recently released the inaugural Canadian Women in Global Health (CWIGH) list at the Canadian Conference on Global Health.
Women make up the majority of the global health workforce but are vastly under-represented in leadership and decision-making position. This gender gap overlooks women’s expertise and comprises the knowledge exchange process and policy base for advancing the field of global health. The CWIGH initiative was created by Jocalyn Clark from the Lancet in collaboration with Eva Slawecki, the Executive Director of CSIH and Sarah Lawley of the Government of Canada to increase the visibility, representation and leadership of Canadian women working in the sector.
The list will act as a resource for journal editors, conference organizers, media and more. The incredible female leaders recognized in the inaugural CWIGH list were selected through a nomination process and confirmed by the Canadian Women in Global Health Working Group.
