ABOUT THE ROLE 

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Media and Communications Senior Officer will be a key team member in helping drive the communications objectives that support the strategy and impact of SOS Children’s Villages Canada (SOS Canada).

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Lead media outreach and related materials including curating media lists, drafting press releases, op-ed, and pitching to media
  • Work closely with the Director of Communications to develop and execute a strategic brand refresh for our Canadian audience in alignment with international guidelines
  • Develop and support programs communications materials including case studies, impact statement one pagers, proposals and reports in partnership with the Programs team
  • Develop and support Leadership Giving fundraising communications including community fundraiser toolkits and webpages, partnership proposals, and event collateral
  • Support the creation and editing of other key fundraising materials such as the quarterly news briefs, direct mail letters and donor packages
  • Plan, manage and develop the SOS Canada Annual Report in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Support the development and lead the execution of strategic campaigns aligning with key international dates and fundraising events and initiatives
  • Support SOS Canada as a go-to for brand, communications, and media relations best practices
  • Develop, collect and analyze data and KPIs on media outreach and monitoring performance monthly and for individual campaigns
  • Support the graphic design and printing of SOS Canada promotional and event materials including project managing key consultants and vendors
  • Liaise with SOS Children’s Villages International Programs and Communications teams and act as Canada’s child safeguarding point of contact
  • Support the social and digital media content plan creation and implementation, as well as enewsletters and web articles as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications

 

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • 5 years progressive communications work experience; non-governmental organization experience a plus
  • A degree/diploma in public relations, marketing, communications, and/or equivalent related experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in French as an asset
  • Exceptional writer and storyteller with a passion for creating engaging content
  • Experience implementing organizational media and public relations strategies, as well as managing reputational risk and crisis communications, preferably on an international level. Active engagement with a network of media contacts is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of media outreach platforms such as Muck Rack, media monitoring analytics and evolving best practices, and proven experience delivering desired results
  • Familiarity with running social engagement and advertising campaigns with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn and their analytics tools
  • A passion for, and knowledge of, child-focused international development and humanitarian assistance programs
  • Experience using email and content management systems such as Active Campaign, Drupal, SharePoint, WordPress, and Facebook Business Suite is a plus
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite and knowledge of graphic design, video and other visual communications
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a team, yet a self-starter comfortable running a project or task independently
  • Meticulous attention to detail with excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
