Project Manager

STATUS: 1-year term contract, 1.0 FTE (start date TBD; anticipated start date September 2024)

REPORTING TO: (Acting) Director, Programs and Operations

LOCATION: Work-from-home position, based in Canada

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Project Manager (PM) works closely with the Director of Programs and Operations to manage organizational processes and delivery of program activities. Possessing superior project management skills, the PM excels in a fast-paced environment that requires discipline and adaptability. With excellent judgment, the PM is able to work with limited information, provides expertise and leadership, and works well within a team. As an individual who thrives in relationship management, the PM is able to expertly manage relationships with external stakeholders including funders, members, partners and vendors. The PM has working knowledge of the full life cycle of managing events and projects, including project budgets and is able to execute high calibre events and projects with minimal supervision. Additionally, the PM brings a strong understanding and practical experience of work in international development, global health and gender equality programming to inform and advance their work.

DUTIES INCLUDE: 
Support effective delivery of organizational governance and operations (30% of time)

  • In close collaboration with the senior management team, proactively support the regular and consistent review and improvement of operational systems, procedures and policies in support of CanWaCH’s mission with a particular focus on human rights, gender equality, and issues of equity 
  • In close collaboration with the senior management team, support the coordination of governance related processes and procedures
  • In close collaboration with the senior management team, support funding opportunities and proposal development, including proposal writing

Support program management (30% of time)

  • Manage comprehensive monitoring and evaluation of CanWaCH programs. Coordinate internal quarterly reporting across all projects and support thoughtful content-informed learning is integrated into projects
  • Manage the writing, development, coordination and delivery of reports (narrative and results reporting) for projects including annual work plans, progress reports, and mid-year reports
  • Support internal reporting, project M&E and compliance with funding agreements

Manage special projects and events (40% of time)

  • Manage the planning, coordination and delivery of special projects and events from start to finish including major flagship events such as the annual general meeting as well as key projects that add value to the CanWaCH membership and stakeholders
  • Use knowledge of international and community development, global health and gender equality to contribute meaningful content in developing special projects 
  • Support the project planning, design and management of projects and activities across organizational pillar teams, as needed to ensure that they are delivered on time according to organizational and donor requirements and within allocated budgets
  • Other duties, as required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Commitment to CanWaCH’s values, vision and mission
  • Deep knowledge of core CanWaCH programmatic and policy areas including: global women and children’s health, SRHR, international development and humanitarian aid. 
  • Excellent written and verbal skills including writing and conversing with various audiences including Board, funders, and members 
  • Experience in tracking, monitoring and evaluation techniques, report writing 
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility principles
  • Self-reflection and ability to navigate differences in opinion and difficult conversations  
  • Demonstrated sense of humour 
  • Experience operating effectively in a virtual environment 
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and event management
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with an aptitude for systems or process thinking 
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple activities to tight timelines, with attention to detail and ability to prioritize 
  • Demonstrated ease in ability to build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues 
  • Demonstrated excellence in ability and willingness to work effectively as a team member 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience, with proven track record in program and project management, including reporting 
  • University degree in relevant field (social science, gender, community development, international development). Equivalent combination of education (e.g. diploma) and experience will be considered

DESIRED SKILLS 

  • Fluency in a second language 
  • Facilitation and public speaking experience
