Research Analyst

PURPOSE: The Research Analyst will lead on CanWaCH efforts to develop a body of evidence-based thought leadership focusing on critical issues at the intersections of global health, gender equality, policy, and economic investment. The Research Analyst will work largely independently to manage a variety of research projects to completion. In consultation with CanWaCH and external colleagues in data management, policy and stakeholder engagement, and gender equality, the Research Analyst will conceptualize research design and methodologies to answer targeted questions, conduct critical statistical and topical analyses, and author compelling publications on findings. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Formulate clear research questions for global health and gender equality research projects together with CanWaCH data and policy colleagues.
  • Conduct environmental scans, data set analysis, and literature reviews to compile evidence on relevant research topics.
  • Develop and monitor robust methodological procedures to ensure research data quality.
  • Analyze existing national and/or public data sets to identify trends and gaps.
  • Manage the collection of quantitative or qualitative data where required, including the development and administration of collection tools.
  • Author multiple reports and analyses, including publication-ready products for a variety of fora (including but not limited to reports, articles, policy briefs, blogs, or presentations).
  • Collaborate actively with key stakeholders, both internal and external, including coordinating meetings.
  • Manage all research project timelines and budgets effectively.
  • Supervise project and research assistants where applicable.
  • Assist with proposal development where required.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES: As the successful candidate, you will have:

  • Graduate degree (doctoral level preferred) coupled with extensive research experience in global public health, gender and development, international policy, and/or other relevant disciplines.
  • Advanced understanding of international development; women, adolescent and  children’s global health; and global gender equality issues.
  • Substantial experience working with administrative data, nationally representative or weighted data sets, public data, and large demographic and social science data sets.
  • Substantial experience leading the conceptualization and implementation of research protocols and undertaking data collection and analysis (quantitative required, qualitative strongly desired).
  • Demonstrated experience with data management and analysis (qualitative and quantitative) using software. Please describe software used.
  • Substantial experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders including researchers, policy makers, government (Canadian and international), and other public data holders.
  • History of publication in a variety of fora, including non-academic. Please provide a list of publications.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing research projects to timely completion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and organize competing priorities and large workloads.
  • Ability to navigate pathways through complex issues with optimism and a can-do attitude.
  • Commitment to human rights, gender equality, and social justice.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Experience conducting research in international settings highly desirable
  • Experience engaging with Global Affairs Canada stakeholders and data sets highly desirable.
  • Experience working in non-profit settings desirable
  • Ability to present research findings in both English and French desirable
  • Experience with basic data visualization desirable
