Research Officer

The University of Toronto, Bruyere Research Institute, and Nutrition International were recently awarded a grant under the Canadian Collaborative for Global Health, and are now seeking a research officer for their lab, Addressing gender and nutrition data gaps through the operationalization of the Gender-Transformative Framework for Nutrition. The job description and application requirements can be found below.

Collaborating partner organizations are working towards an operational toolkit based on the Gender-Transformative Framework for Nutrition (GTFN). In close collaboration with the project team, the goal of your responsibilities would be to provide research support for the operationalization of the GTFN that integrates inclusivity, diversity and equity.

Your responsibilities will include the following categories:

1) Summary of best practices of participatory approaches and tools

− Contribute to the development of a compendium of all existing tools and resources per GTFN domain, area and region;
− Review existing tools and resources in terms of usefulness across contexts in a participatory manner with the collaborating partner organizations, the Steering Committee and other relevant stakeholders;
− Explore the relevancy of building a scoping review based on the summary of best practices;
− Prepare an estimated schedule for the systematic review;
− Capture lessons learned of the process to build the compendium.

2) Stakeholder Analysis Exercise

− Support the identification of relevant stakeholders and Steering Committee members based on an established governance structure;
− Capture lessons learned of the exercise.

3) Representation and Coordination

− Attend regular meetings (by virtual platforms) with Technical Staff;
− Prepare meeting minutes for research team.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a post-graduate degree in International Public Health/Gender Studies/Epidemiology/Nutrition or a combination of relevant training and work experience;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstration of cultural awareness, diplomacy and tact;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in health equity, particularly gender equity;
  • Interest in global humanitarian work;
  • Demonstrated experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods;
  • Ability to work independently and to multi-task;
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and coordination skills.
