Vice President, Philanthropy, Brand & Communications

About Canadian Feed The Children

Canadian Feed the Children’s vision is a world in which children thrive, free of poverty. CFTC works with and through local partners in Uganda, Ethiopia, Ghana, Bolivia, and with Indigenous Nations and communities in Canada, to deliver programs that have positive, meaningful, and sustained impact on the health, education and well-being of children and the self-sufficiency of their families and communities.

CFTC is a community and partner-led organization founded over 35 years ago. CFTC helps people achieve long-term change for children, families and communities with a focus on food security and education as catalysts of change, and capacity building to ensure sustainability. CFTC is achieving significant advances in creating greater food security – especially in the face of the growing impacts of climate change on smallholder farmers – for families and communities through large-scale, collaborative and institutionally-funded projects.

Last year, CFTC reached 147,392 people in 111 high-need communities recognizing that supporting immediate food security and education needs is the first step to healthy futures for children, families and communities. In Canada, support is reaching across Turtle Island where 31 Indigenous partners and communities are helping children and youth re-connect to their heritage, and repair ties broken by colonization and residential schools. Globally, programs are helping women access financial services, support their families and build new businesses around the world. All through the support of institutional and individual donors as well as foundations.

In 2022, the organization began an exciting new chapter, a revisioning of its future with the launch of a new strategic planning process and rebranding exercise. 2023 will see the completion of this new strategy and the launch of an exciting new brand identity that more closely aligns with the organization’s values.

The Role

For over three decades, CFTC has built high impact programming that supports families in their efforts to gain greater food security and help build sustainable community resilience. The impact has been possible in great part due to the longstanding support of the many donors who fund this work in 111 communities across five countries. As a key member of Canadian Feed The Children’s leadership team, the Vice President, Philanthropy, Brand & Communications (VPPBC) will lead the comprehensive philanthropy functions intended to cultivate long-term, donor-centered relationships and develop sustainable and diversified sources of revenue. During this time of transformation, they will also lead efforts to enhance CFTC’s brand and oversee the development and execution of communications strategies to elevate the organization’s profile and reputation with the goal of driving engagement with and support for the organization across all audiences.

The VPPBC is accountable for the annual fundraising revenue target and raising funds in support of CFTC’s programs with a wide range of audiences. The VPPBC will be an ambitious, results-oriented fundraiser with an entrepreneurial and problem-solving mindset. They will conceptualize, plan and execute strategies to grow low-cost revenue. The role requires in-depth knowledge and understanding of fund development and expertise raising funds through an integrated fundraising program that includes: major gifts; foundations; corporate partnerships; community engagement; direct marketing; legacy giving; and monthly giving.

They will be an experienced leader of people and projects, outcome focused, committed to social justice and driven by a passion for the unique value proposition of CFTC. The incumbent will be an exceptional communicator, strategic and a brand ambassador driven to enhance and broaden the base of donors and supporters. As a dynamic and engaging relationship builder and a trusted advisor, the VPPBC, will quickly earn and maintain the respect of a team of the two other senior management peers (VP Programs and Partnerships and VP Finance & Operations), the Director, People & Culture, the President & CEO, and a Board of Directors.
