Registration for the 2024 Fall CIHR Project Grant Competition is now open. Registration closes on August 14 and the full application is due September 14. The PI for these funds must be hold a position at a Canadian institution. CIHR does fund global health research, according to the funding call for this year’s project grant competition. There is also a Priority Announcement for bridge funding specific to global health research relevant to Institute of Population and Public Health and Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies this year.
CIHR has recently sent communications to peer reviewers confirming Global Health as a CIHR priority eligible for funding. Despite this, not all peer reviewers may be fully aware that global health research is a part of CIHR’s mandate. An option to mitigate this is to include a statement in your proposal that mentions that the project is aligned with CIHR’s 2021-2031 Strategic Plan (which prioritizes global health as a means of reducing health inequities for all) and CIHR’s Framework for Action on Global Health Research 2021-2026, along with a sentence or two on specific areas of the Framework that your project will align with.
Also a note that salary for investigators outside of Canada may be possible, but a letter from their employer is needed attesting that that individual is not being compensated for time spent on the grant-funded research activities is required for these individuals.
Please find more details on the CIHR website and contact CIHR at [email protected] if you have any further questions.
