Assistant Professor (Research)

Position description

The School of Population and Global Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, McGill University, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the field of public and population health academic programs related to mental health, climate change and humanitarian crises. The successful applicant will hold an academic appointment as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Assistant Professor (Research). This position does not confer eligibility for tenure. This is 3-year, renewable appointment.

McGill University is one of Canada’s leading universities, and the new School of Population and Global Health is developing its strategic plan for the next five years. The successful candidate will play an important role in the development of its public and population health academic programs related to mental health, climate change and humanitarian crises.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program in one or more of the School’s priority areas, which are mental health, climate change, and humanitarian crises. The candidate must also acquire funds to support the training of graduate students.

The successful candidate will actively contribute to teaching and mentoring Masters of Science in Public Health (MScPH) graduate students. This will entail teaching 1 three-credit course per term as part of either the MScPH program or the new undergraduate program in Population Global Health in behavioural research methods and one of the three areas listed above.

Additional duties will involve contributing to the development of the School of Population and Global Health in its various research, education and service activities. The successful candidate will have the potential to innovate in public and population health education and have an established track record in public health research. They will also be able to develop meaningful and productive relationships with population and global health organizations to support and enhance public health research and training.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent (such as MD with MSc) in public health or in a related field. An understanding of and experience working in International, Canadian, Quebec or other relevant public health systems is necessary as well as understanding and experience of core public health functions (e.g. surveillance, prevention, health promotion and health protection).
