BioTalent Canada’s Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) Funding Information Session

The UBC Science Co-op Program is hosting a BioTalent Canada’s Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) Funding Information Session to support employers interested in applying for funding for the Fall 2025 term.

BioTalent Canada’s Student Work Placement Program – Information:

Amount: BioTalent Canada’s SWPP provides employers a wage subsidy of 50% for a student’s salary, up to a maximum of $5,000, or 70%, up to a maximum of $7,000 for students that identify as one of Canada’s federally-recognized under-represented groups (woman in STEM, Indigenous students, persons with disability, members of a visible minority, and newcomers).

Eligibility: 

  • Project must have a biotechnology or healthcare focus (with an overlap with the bio-economy; this includes global health projects with an overlap with the bioeconomy.
  • Employers must be based in Canada need to have a biotechnology or healthcare focus (with an overlap with the bio-economy); PHSA (i.e., BCCH or BCWH) is an eligible institution, however, post-secondary institutions (universities, colleges and polytechnics) are not eligible as employers. 
  • Students must be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at a Canadian post-secondary education institution, including undergrad, Masters, PhD or post-graduate students; and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection given under the law. International students are not eligible
