Position Summary

As part of an ambitious suite of activities to engage Canadians in international development, steward existing stakeholders, and reach new audiences, AKFC deploys a range of strategies and tools for public engagement. The Coordinator, Education and Youth Engagement plays an essential role in the planning and execution of AKFC’s virtual, hybrid, and in-person public engagement initiatives targeting youth, educators and young professionals from all walks of life.

The Education and Youth Engagement Coordinator is involved in all facets of the programming implementation lifecycle and collaborates with AKFC colleagues to successfully execute important components of AKFC’s education and youth engagement strategy to advance Canadian interest in a more peaceful and prosperous world for all and advance learning and dialogue among Canadian youth and educators.

The position is anchored in the Public Engagement and Resource Mobilization department, reporting to the Manager, Education and Youth Engagement. The role is based in Ottawa and some in-office work is required, determined in consultation with supervisors and AKFC’s flexible work policy. Support is provided for relocation if necessary. The anticipated salary range is between $53,000 and $58,000, alongside a competitive benefits package.

Responsibilities
The individual will be responsible for supporting World Partnership Walk and World Partnership
Golf fundraising and event execution.

  • Support the planning and execution of a range of activities to engage youth and educator audiences across Canada, including events and multi-day seminars, distribution of resources and learning opportunities, and digital outreach across a variety of platforms.
  • Carry out all aspects of event logistics, including but not limited to arranging flights, hotels, transfers, meals, developing detailed risk management scenarios, supporting event communications, and coordinating event logistics in collaboration with colleagues across departments.
  • Work closely and coordinate relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and service providers.
  • Prepare key planning documents, including concept notes, proposals, work plans, and budgets, to support logistical execution.
  • Identify opportunities to engage stakeholders and collaborate with like- minded organizations across events and public engagement initiatives.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, and reporting activities, including data entry and analysis, and feed lessons and participant feedback into future programming to ensure continual relevance and improvement of logistical execution.
  • Execute duties while upholding AKFC’s commitments to safeguarding, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Two to five years of experience in administration or program coordination. Experience in logistics, planning and executing hybrid (in-person / online) events for youth considered a strong asset.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant discipline such as event management, business administration, communications, international development, or public affairs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with consultants, service providers and managing contracts.
  • Proven ability to support innovative ideas for programming, adopting a collaborative approach, building strong relationships with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in French is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, assess trends, best practices, and innovative approaches for public engagement event logistics, with a keen eye for financial and budget management.
  • Experience safeguarding vulnerable populations.
