Target Hiring/ Target Hiring Range: $74,000 to $78,000 CAD per annum

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the National Director of the Canadian National Office, the Development Manager, Indigenous Program’s principal accountabilities will be to manage a portfolio of primarily government and institutional prospects and donors in support of Indigenous Programs. The Development Manager will also have responsibilities for proposal development, grant writing and donor stewardship reports for both corporate and individual prospects and donors.

The incumbent will also work closely with the Executive Director, Indigenous Programs – Canada in the development of new funding relationships with government and institutional partners.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Responsibility #1: Lead for Government and Institutional Funding Relationships (55% of Time):

  • Leads the development of the domestic government fundraising strategy and key government relationships with the support and guidance of the National Director, Program Directors & Executive Director, Indigenous Programs.
  • Leads the grant management cycle for government funding (prospecting to reporting), engaging identified team members for technical input and final approvals in accordance with RTP grant management standards.
  • Ensures community voice and priorities are represented in submitted proposals.
  • Manages donor stewardship for all domestic government stakeholders, including appropriate program and other team members as identified.
  • Responsible and accountable for developing and maintaining key government partnership opportunities.
  • Supports the development of fee-for-service and other revenue source innovations.
  • Supports the development of implementing Indigenous governance partnerships.
  • Supports community partners in their own fundraising or grant writing, including co-development of proposals that would support partnerships.

Job Responsibility #2: Proposal, Grant Writing and Stewardship Report Development for Indigenous Program Fundraising (30% of Time):  

  • Acts as the lead writer for the Indigenous Programs portfolio, writing, submitting and managing grant proposals.
  • Develops custom pitch decks to communicate organizational priorities with potential government and institutional partners.
  • Collaborates with the Indigenous Programs team to identify programmatic priorities to communicate with potential government prospects and donors.
  • Furnishes prospective funders with supporting documents.
  • Maintains proficient knowledge of the organization’s history and programs.

Job Responsibility #3: Administration (10% of Time):

  • Manages and records all fundraising activity in the CRM software in accordance with reporting and performance measurement policy.
  • Establishes and adheres to process, systems and policies for cultivating and stewarding assigned constituents.
  • Keeps the CNO team up-to-date on major trends that may affect Canada’s relationship with government and institutional donor portfolio.
  • Recommends changes in marketing materials, strategies, etc., by evaluating results and competitive developments.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Job Responsibility #4: Other Tasks as Assigned (5% of Time):

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Must have):

EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION:

  • University degree in a related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years in a non-profit fundraising role with an established track record of securing gifts and exceeding fundraising targets.
  • Experience in developing new funding relationships with government partners.
  • Experience in writing of fundraising proposals and stewardship reports.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Indigenous people’s realities in Canada.
  • Committed to working in an organization that is committed to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
  • Solid understanding of fundraising software such as MS CRM or Raiser’s Edge.
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office Suite.

LANGUAGES:    

  • Fluency in oral and written English.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (An Asset)

  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) Certification
  • Project management experience
  • Experience fundraising for children and youth programs
  • Fluency in French
