Human Resources Management Advisor Volunteer – eSwatini

Main Responsibilities

  • Update staff files
  • Review and update staff contracts as may be necessary
  • Ensure implementation of Human Resource Recommendations by HR Consultant
  • Strengthen organizational administrative systems inclusive of fleet management and
    keeping organizational inventory
  • Evaluate staff skills and career development needs
  • Staff capacity building on Human Resources policies

Qualifications

  • 3 – 8 years of experience in human resources, employee relations, or a related field.
    Previous experience in a similar role is considered a plus.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a
    related field
  • Knowledge of topics like equal employment opportunity, labor relations, and workplace
    safety.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in identifying training needs, developing training programs, and supporting
    employee development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with HR software systems for tasks like payroll, benefits administration, and
    employee records management is considered a plus

Project description and context

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and
volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become
Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate
poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and
economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and
influence.

Description of the partner

Swatini Action Group Against Abuse (SWAGAA) is a non-governmental organization that has
been working for over 30 years to end gender-based violence (GBV), sexual abuse and human
trafficking in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland).

Description the volunteer mandate

The Human Resource volunteer is needed to strengthen Human Resource management in the
organization. A consultant will be completing a preliminary Human Resource plan by July 2023
which the volunteer is expected to support the organization in implementing.

Eligibility criteria

  • Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
  • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during
  • and after the placement
  • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
  • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
  • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer.
  • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training from 25 October – 1 November 2023 for November/December departure dates OR 6 – 13 December 2023 for January 2024 departure dates.

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and
welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

  • Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment) 
  • Plane ticket and local transport  
  • Pre-assignment online training.
