About The End FGM Canada Network

The End FGM Canada Network is a group of survivors, civil society organizations, activists, policy specialists, healthcare providers, educators and others committed to the abandonment of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) both in Canada and globally by 2030.  The End FGM Network seeks to connect, support, elevate and advocate with its members and diverse Canadian stakeholders in FGM/C prevention, education, care and advocacy. The network was launched in 2019 by four women who were concerned that not enough was being done to address FGM/C a Canadian issue.  Since its inception, we have built a strong foundation, influence, and a strong social media presence, the Network is fast becoming the lead advocacy voice in Canada on ending this harmful practice domestically and internationally.  

The Role

We are seeking a full-time coordinator to support and grow our Network by developing effective strategies and campaigns whilst engaging with members, civil society and government stakeholders to increase our outreach and impact. Applicants must be based in and legally able to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

Network Building:

The Network Coordinator will play a critical leadership role in shaping growing and implementing the priorities of The End FGM Network. This includes:

• Increase Network membership with key stakeholders in Canada, including civil society and government, and at the global level; 
• Maintain existing and develop new partnerships, strategic alliances and collaborations with key domestic and international stakeholders;
• Identify strategies for cultivating new Network members and for facilitating deeper engagement among existing members, including creating opportunities for information sharing, collaborations, and events (virtual and physical);
• Update & manage Network related documents and database;
• Facilitate online FGM training;
• Facilitate day-to-day operations of the Network; 
• Report to the fiscal sponsor on the Network’s accounts and activities;
• Represent End FGM Canada and participate on relevant external committees;
• Support in identifying funding opportunities and support grant applications.
• Work closely with the Digital Media and Communications Officer to promote the activities of the Network

Joining Hands Project:

Support the activities of the Joining Hands project. This includes:

• Reaching out to stakeholders to promote the project and garner interest in online training; 
• Oversee and coordinate webinars including webinar promotion, securing interpretation services, liaising with presenters and facilitating the webinars;
• Assist in collecting statistical information as needed;
• Recruit, onboard and manage volunteers to support the project and days of action.

Administration:

Oversee the efficient operation of the organization on a day-to-day basis. Maintain and organize up-to-date contact lists. This includes: 

• Oversee the [email protected] email account;
• Coordinate the production of print materials;
• Schedule and coordinate all bookings, webinars and events;
• Setting the agenda and taking notes at board meetings;
• Other duties as needed

Young Survivors Fund: 

Oversee the Young Survivors Fund counselling initiative to support girls and women living with the consequence of FGM/C. 

• Manage the list of Young Survivors Fund donors;
• Coordinate counselling services with survivors who access the fund. 

Advocacy Campaigns: 

Oversee the implementation of advocacy campaigns in tandem with the Digital Media & Communications Officer. Such days include:

• February  6^th – International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation;
• March 8^th – International Women’s Day;
• October 11^th – International Day of the Girl;
• November 25^th – December 10^th  – 16 Days of Activism.  

Qualifications

The Network Coordinator has an important role in ensuring the effective functioning of the Network. This position requires a proven self-starter and a strong ability to manage numerous priorities while ensuring strong results and engagements.  The candidate must be a strong coalition builder and communicator.  They must be able to leverage opportunities in a timely manner while ensuring empathic engagement with all stakeholders in meeting goals.  

It is critical for the candidate to align with the Network’s mission statement and values.

Skills & Abilities:

• Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in a related field is required;
• Knowledge and/or experience working in the field of human rights, with a focus on women’s and children’s rights, and gender-based violence; experience in the field of FGM/C is preferred;
• Experience building coalitions or networks; 
• Must identify as a self-starter who can work remotely;
• Strong organizational skills, relationship and operations management;
• Excellent communication skills;
• Experience supervising volunteers;
• Experience in advocacy; experience working with member-based organizations; 
• Experience working with a variety of different cultures; working with FGM/C or gender-based violence survivors an asset; 
• Experience organizing events and/or running campaigns
• Experience in grant writing an asset;
• Excellent English, written and oral communication skills; French language skills are a plus.
