Job purpose

Youth & Advocacy audiences serve as key partners to help drive our World Vision Canada brand forward. We’re looking to create purposeful and lasting relationships with our audiences that inspire them to join us on our mission to do more for more children. In this newly created role, you will lead public advocacy and youth engagement initiatives and campaigns that further the rights of children and raises awareness on issues faced by vulnerable children. The Officer serves as WVC’s representative to external stakeholder groups including, but not limited to, campus clubs, youth groups and youth partners/organizations with the purpose of developing long-term relationships and achieving World Vision’s non-financial public engagement goals. You will help drive award winning campaigns such as No Child for Sale, and advocacy outreach that leverages channels such as Voices that reach Canadians across the country.


Duties and responsibilities

Youth Engagement (75%)

  • Leads all youth activities and executes strategies developed in partnership with the Manager, Engagement.
  • Represents World Vision to external youth members, primarily, but not limited to, supporting campus clubs and students at post-secondary institutions across the country.
  • Fosters and grows an online community for youth leaders.
  • Plans and coordinates engaging ways for youth to engage with World Vision around key moments, including but not limited to user generated and social media content.
  • Takes initiative to achieve end goal to amplify youth voices and strengthen World Vision’s digital brand presence and reputation on Canadian campuses and in youth thought leadership circles.
  • Creates youth customer journeys for youth supporters.
  • Represents and collaborates across teams internally on youth issues and causes.

Building Advocacy Community (25%)

  • Ideates on civil society engagement strategies, identifies activities and creates compelling content for new and existing channels that will drive meaningful advocacy engagement and action for youth and key adult market segments.
  • The role may include periodic support for public engagement grant proposal writing, ideation and execution of successful grants.
  • Researches and uncovers provocative human rights or development issues and develops corresponding engagement tactics to support the development of Public Engagement and public advocacy campaigns.

Qualifications

  • Secondary degree in Communications, Marketing, Applied Social Sciences, International Development or relevant fields
  • 5-8 years’ experience in youth engagement, education, advocacy, awareness, mobilization, and/or communications
  • Familiarity with foreign aid, advocacy international development, human rights/justice
  • Demonstrated experience in public communications, writing and education activities
  • Demonstrated planning, process development and administrative experience
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, communication and analytical skills
  • Team collaboration skills and experience
  • Experience working with youth aged 16-24 with digital background engagement is a strong asset
