The SickKids Centre for Global Child Health provides a dedicated hub for global child health-focused activities and connects researchers and health-care professionals around the world. The Centre is dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families in resource-poor environments through collaboration in ground-breaking research, sustainable capacity building through education, and the active communication of results through knowledge translation, networks and advocacy. Launched in 2023, Increase Gains in Nutrition by Integration, Education, Evaluation, Empowerment (IGNIT3) is a sustainable capacity-building project in Ghana, Malawi and Pakistan led by The Centre for Global Child Health at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), in collaboration with Nutrition International and WaterAid Canada. With funding from the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada, this project aims to improve nutrition for women, adolescent girls, and children in Ghana, Malawi and Pakistan over a span of five years (2023-2028) through targeted, integrated nutrition, health, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programming. Local implementing partners include Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives (GCNM), Aga Khan University (AKU), Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) and WaterAid country offices in Ghana, Malawi and Pakistan and Nutrition International countries offices in Malawi and Pakistan. The project aims to directly impact beneficiaries in health facilities, communities and education institutions. Working closely with the Director of Capacity Building and Senior Manager of Interprofessional Education, the Project Manager (PM) collaborates with internal and external colleagues, local and in-country partners and government officials to manage operational processes and the delivery and evaluation of program activities. Leveraging strong project management and communication skills, the PM excels in a fast-paced environment and is responsive and solution oriented. The PM has working knowledge of the full life cycle of managing projects, including project budgets and is able to execute high caliber deliverables with minimal supervision. Additionally, the PM brings a strong understanding and practical experience of work in global health with a focus on capacity building, environmental sustainability and gender equality programming.
What you get to do:
- Provide project management support and leadership in planning, implementing and monitoring the IGNIT3 project at SickKids and in partner countries.
- Collaborates with other Project Managers, Finance Manager, Technical Team, MEL Manager, and other project staff and in-country partners to develop comprehensive workplans and budgets, complete required reporting, and support monitoring and evaluation plans and trainings.
- Leverage experience and expertise in global health and capacity building act as a thought leader and resource for the technical team and contribute to the development of quality assurance and risk management strategies and tools.
- Support development and consolidation of project budgets, track expenses, input and report expense claims to ensure that all deliverables are achieved on schedule and within budget. Oversee and coordinate procurement of services and goods for project activities in alignment with project budgets and financial reporting and procurement guidelines.
- Organize, lead and facilitate events, workshops and project and sub-committee meetings with staff and partners, both locally and internationally, to support project planning and implementation, communications, knowledge translation and dissemination and appropriate governance.
- Manage the writing, developing and consolidation of annual narrative and financial reports ensuring compliance with Global Affairs Canada reporting requirements. Report on project progress to internal and external groups through the coordination and development of narrative and technical reports, briefing notes and presentations.
- Create, update and disseminate project newsletters, social media posts, website updates and other communications materials.
- Support project administration, including maintaining project databases for contacts, timesheets, etc., assisting team in editing, and providing quality control for education and project materials, and supporting additional project administration such as travel logistics as required
- Support the implementation of IGNIT3’s MEL Plan and integration of IGNIT3’s Gender and Human Rights Analysis and Environmental Management Plan Use monitoring results to facilitate action-learning and continuous quality improvement across the project with all partners
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external staff, partners and government officials and represent the project. Represent the hospital in Canada and in partner-countries.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 3-5 years of project management experience preferably within a related and relevant field or sector
- A Masters degree in related field or significant experience in the development sector preferred and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) designation preferred
- Commitment to SickKids values, vision and mission
- Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
- 3-5 years of project management experience preferably within a related and relevant field or sector
- A Masters in related field or significant experience in the development sector preferred and/or Professional Project Management designation preferred
- Strong knowledge of project management processes and the project management life cycle and expert knowledge of Microsoft Office and Project Tools (i.e. Word, Project, Excel, Power Point)
- Knowledge of the health sector, particularly in Low- and Middle-Income Countries
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage activities both for yourself and for others effectively
- Excellent multi-tasking skills with the ability to plan, set priorities, meet deadlines and work confidently under pressure
- Self-directed, innovative with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong writing, facilitation and presentation skills
- Proficient in coordinating and critically appraising evidenced based research
- Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external staff, partners and government officials in an international environment
- Culturally competent and adaptable to various working styles
- Ability to travel for 10-20% of the time to remote project sites
