———About SHE SOARS

SHE SOARS stands for Sexual and reproductive Health & Economic empowerment (SHE)
Supporting Out of school Adolescent girls’ Rights and Skills (SOARS). This is a multi-year, collaborative project implemented by the Youth Coalition for Sexual & Reproductive Rights, Restless Development, Center for Reproductive Rights and CARE, funded by Global Affairs Canada. It looks to directly benefit, through strategies for advancing SRHR and Economic Empowerment, 203,370 out-of-school adolescent girls in Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia. ———Who are the Youth Public Engagement Champions (YPEC)?

The implementing partners of SHE SOARS are committed to meaningfully engage young people in the initiatives targeting them. Therefore, we see the need to create a youth-led body that allows young people to lead as experts of their own realities. Youth Public Engagement Champions is a body of young people within Canada that will promote meaningful youth engagement (MYE) in the design, implementation, and accountability of the public engagement efforts of SHE SOARS project.

———The YPEC’s mandate

YPEC is a structure within the SHE SOARS project that will raise awareness and advocacy for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) needs of youth globally, through public engagement. YPEC will engage with other young people meaningfully, in partnership with the Youth Advisory Board (YAB), to design and implement public engagement activities. In this capacity, we want YPEC to lead and create youth-led opportunities for young people to collaborate, learn, gain new skills and techniques, and become global citizens

———Eligibility

A young person from Canada between 16-24 years old.

If you are enthusiastic about advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in your community, keep reading! We are looking for young people with experience in youth-led advocacy or interest in youth-centered issues. The ideal candidate is committed to taking an intersectional lens for analyzing SRHR issues and has a genuine interest in creating safe(r) spaces for youth to talk about SRHR, raise awareness and take action at a global level!

———Time commitment & compensation

The time commitment of each member will be up to 10 hours per month, rom May 2022 to April 2024.

The mandate of this group will last two years. New members will be elected every two years to allow other youth to hold leadership roles within the project.

Those who are selected will receive a compensation of 20 CAD per hour.

The YPEC will receive appropriate training as well as capacity building and advocacy opportunities.
