WHAT YOU WILL DO

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Social Media Specialist is a key part of the communications team. This person is responsible for the foundation’s day-to-day voice and messaging on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn where they actively create a community among SLF supporters, grassroots partners in sub-Saharan Africa, and like-minded organizations, and drive increased engagement and support for the foundation’s work. 

  • In support of communications, fundraising, and advocacy goals, design and execute a social media strategy to drive awareness of and engagement with the foundation’s work and the work of our 100 partner organizations across sub-Saharan Africa
  • Lead the design, writing, and production of all the foundation’s social media content on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube, in alignment with our brand messaging platform 
  • Monitor the social media channels of partner organizations the SLF supports to generate content for all communications and fundraising work 
  • Liaise directly with partner organizations in sub-Saharan Africa to source impact stories, quotes, and photography 
  • Lead live social media support of foundation events 
  • Lead the creation and execution of paid social media ad campaigns that drive goals including awareness, web traffic, and newsletter sign-ups; manage the budgets of those campaigns 
  • Measure, optimize and report on performance of the foundation’s social media channels 
  • With cross-team support, assist with virtual and in-person events, including livestreaming, comment moderation, photography, and other tasks as needed 

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

  • Social Media expertise, including the creative design and execution of engaging multi-channel content that develops relationships, drives website traffic, and inspires audiences to support the foundation’s work 
  • Excellent storytelling, writing, and proofreading skills 
  • Experience creating, reporting on, and optimizing paid social media advertising campaigns  
  • High skill level with Sprout Social, or other social media publisher is a strong asset 
  • Design savvy and familiarity with Canva or Adobe suite is a strong asset; experience working with brand guidelines 
  • Experience with video editing is a strong asset 
  • Ability to work effectively on a small, nimble, deadline-driven team with high levels of collaboration 
  • Personal commitment to the values of feminism, anti-racism, and anti-colonialism  
  • Experience in or desire to learn about international development, community-based responses to HIV and AIDS, and the non-profit sector
