Social Worker/Psychologist (for Katswe Sistahood) – ICAD Summer Internship Program

Position and General Context
The Interagency Coalition on AIDS and Development (ICAD) is looking for three interns (social worker, fundraiser and communications advisor) to support our project work in Zimbabwe. The project is called Simba Utano (Health is Power) and is funded by Global Affairs Canada. It is being implemented through a collaboration of two Canadian organizations, ICAD and the International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO) and two local Zimbabwean organizations, Youth Engage and Katswe Sistahood. The staff of both Zimbabwean organizations have extensive experience working with young and vulnerable populations on the issues of human rights and health and more specifically sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and HIV.

The project is addressing the demand side of health service delivery. This is being done by working in priority districts to address the systemic barriers to accessing health which includes the socio-cultural norms and traditional community beliefs that impede access and utilization of services especially for adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). From the supply side, the project is strengthening health and governance systems to support the delivery of quality and responsive SRHR and HIV services for AGYW.

Main responsibilities will support Katswe’s resident Social Worker in the following areas:

  • Advising on methods of best counselling practice for girls and young women on sexual and reproductive health issues;
  • Supporting the development of assessment tools for online counselling of adolescent girls and young women;
  • Facilitating the development of a blueprint/plan aimed at coordinating treatment and maintaining ongoing contact with outpatient providers for the continual care of patients;
  • Supporting the development of communication materials and tools for use in the health and wellness program.

Qualifications:

  • Working towards an Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Social Work or Psychology;
  • Good knowledge of adolescent sexual and reproductive health issues;
