Amref Health Africa Welcomes New Executive Director

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Amref Health Africa in Canada, I have some news to share with you. Anne Marie Kamanye, our Executive Director for the past eight years, has decided to take a position with our international headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

Anne-Marie has created life-long relationships and partnerships with many of us, both personally and professionally, and has really taken this organization to a new level in the last few years. Under her leadership, the organization saw a significant increase in revenue from just over $2 million in 2011 to more than $13 million in 2018, enabling us to reach even more communities in Africa to create lasting health change. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Anne-Marie for her outstanding contribution as Executive Director since August 2011. The Canada office has thrived under her leadership and we look forward to continuing to work with Anne-Marie in her new role as Director of Business Development for Amref Health Africa globally.

Onome Ako, Executive Director, Amref Health Africa in Canada

I am also very pleased to be able to introduce you to the organization’s newly appointed Executive Director, Onome Ako. Onome was selected for the role after a rigorous external hiring process. Onome becomes Executive Director of Amref Health Africa in Canada after four years as our Director of Strategic Partnerships.

Before joining Amref Health Africa, Onome worked with World Vision Canada and AfricaRecruit in various senior roles. She has extensive experience in global development, having managed projects that have been implemented in Peru, Senegal, Mozambique, Madagascar, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Mexico, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mongolia. Onome is an associate of the Nigerian Leadership Initiative, a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network, and a mentor with the Creative Institute for Toronto Young (CITY) Leaders, United Way. She has an MSc in Management of NGOs and Social Policy and Participation in Developing Countries from the London School of Economics, United Kingdom.

Please join me in welcoming Onome to her new role.

The Board of Directors looks forward to working together with Onome, the staff of Amref Health Africa in Canada and you to make a lasting difference together.

Should you have any questions or comments, I would be happy to hear from you via our office email address [email protected] or office phone number at 416-961-6981 (1-888-318-4442).
